Jeffrey Scott Smith

Tiverton, RI - Jeffrey Scott Smith, 49, of 30 Farnsworth Avenue, Tiverton, died Thursday, September 2, 2004 at home, after a nine year struggle with Leukemia.He was the husband of CDR Denise LaRue Songer Smith, formerly of West Springfield, PA. Born in Philipsburg, PA on December 13, 1954, he was the son of Elliott Smith of Las Vegas, NV and Allaryna S. Hamilton of Philipsburg, PA. Jeff held a B.S. in Parks and Recreation in addition to a M.Ed. in Counseling Education from The Pennsylvania State University. Jeff, a decorated veteran, served his country in the United States Coast Guard where he was a proud recipient of the Coast Guard Air Medal. Additionally, Jeff was a member of the Elks Club #353 and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 254 and the Disabled American Veterans. Besides his wife and parents he is survived by two daughters Sarah L. Smith of Mankato, MI, and Abigail M. Smith of New Haven, CT, and his sister Kathleen Olmsted of Sharpsburg, GA.Family and Friends will be received, on Saturday, September 4, 2004, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Full military honors will follow at his internment in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington.
