Jens G. Thillemann

Newport, RI - Jens G. Thillemann, 63, of Carroll Avenue, Newport, RI, died Saturday, September 8, 2007 at home. Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, on January 27, 1944, he was the son of the late Paul and Mary Christensen Thillemann.Mr. Thillemann served in the Danish Army United Nations Force in Cyprus from 1965-1966. After completing his military service he and his friend Hans Cortsen traveled to Australia where they worked at a ski area. They then traveled to the US in 1969 and became ski instructors at Mt. Snow in West Dover, Vermont. Jens resided in West Dover for several years working as a ski instructor and in the restaurant business. In 1975 he moved to Newport, RI and became the manager of the Inn at Castle Hill, where he worked for the next 20 years. Upon his retirement in 1995 he also managed the Vincents Pier restaurant for several years. He is survived by his son Jan, his granddaughter Simone, a brother in law Peter Skov, and four nephews Christian Skov, Jens Skov, Hans Skov, and Peter Thillemann, and a niece Vivian Thillemann, all of Denmark, and his great friend Hans Cortsen formerly of Newport, RI.He is preceded in death by his sister Edel Skov and brother Mogens Thillemann.A memorial luncheon will be held on Wednesday, September 12, from 12:00 Noon to 4:00pm at the West Deck, Waite?s Wharf, Newport.
