Jesse DeCosta, 86, of 24 Miantonomi Avenue Middletown, RI, died Tuesday, October 28, 2003 at home.He was the husband of the late Anna Silveira DeCosta. Born in Newport, RI on May 15, 1917, he was the son of the late Antone and Georgianna Pacheco DeCosta.Mr. DeCosta worked at Boulevard Nurseries for 65 years. He also worked as a Bakemaster at Kempenaars Clambake Club for the duration of his time at Boulevard Nurseries. Mr. DeCosta was a communicant of Jesus Saviour Church, a member of the Jesus Saviour Holy Name Society, the Seven Castles Club, the New England Nurserymans Association and the Vasco da Gama Society. He was Past Grand Knight of the Middletown Kinghts of Columbus and an honory member of Lodge 8 FOP of Newport. Mr. DeCosta always could be seen gardening and maintaing his lawn. He was famous for his Clam Chowder and also played the Tuba and enjoyed band music. He is survived by two sons Dennis DeCosta of and Jesse DeCosta Jr. both of Middletown, RI, his daughter Anne DeAscentis of Middletown, RI, three brothers Edmund DeCosta and Joseph DeCosta both of Middletown, RI, and William DeCostaof Tampa, FL, three sisters Mary Dias of Middletown, RI, Gilda DeCosta of Portsmouth, RI, and Alice Massed of Newport, RI, seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.He was the brother of the late Anthony DeCosta.His funeral will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2003, at 9:00 AM from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 AM in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway And Vernon Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown. Donations may be made to the Seven Castles Club in memory of Jesse DeCosta.
