NEWPORT, RI?Jesse Parvo, 93, of 6 Freeborn Street, Newport, RI, died on Wednesday, February 15, 2006, at the Newport Hospital. He was the husband of Emily Santos Parvo with whom he celebrated his 70th wedding anniversary in November 2005. Born in Middletown, RI on August 8, 1912, he was the son of the late Jesse and Rose Moitoza Parvo.Jesse grew up in Middletown and lived on Aquidneck Island his entire life. During WWII he was a technician at the Naval Torpedo Station on Goat Island. In 1964 he started his own contracting business and painted numerous Bellevue Avenue estates in Newport. Jesse loved music and was an accomplished musician who played the mandolin and violin. He started an orchestra in the 40s that played at parties and weddings for two decades and made musical guest appearances every Sunday on WADK radio ?The Voice of the Azores? program. An active volunteer, he was a member of the Vasco da Gama Holy Ghost Society, the Middletown Knights of Columbus, the Newport Elks Lodge, Seven Castles Club and the Kiwanis Club. A member of Green Valley Country Club, he could be found playing golf every Sunday morning.He enjoyed traveling to San Miguel, Portugal, from where his family originated. He and his wife spent many winters at their second home in Pompano Beach, Florida where they had acquired many friends. Known to many in the community for his outgoing personality; he truly loved people and was always the first to strike up a conversation. Because of his full mane of silver hair, Jesse was known up and down the East Coast as the ?Silver Fox?. With an infectious smile and jovial sense of humor there wasn?t a waitress he couldn?t charm. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his son, William J. Parvo and his wife, Janice, of Newport, RI, his daughter Barbara Boog and her husband, James, of Middletown, RI, four grandchildren Kevin Boog and his wife, Gisele, Brian Boog and his wife, Maureen, David Parvo and Elizabeth Parvo, and four great grandchildren Julia, Jesse, Nicholas, and Maggie. He was preceded in death by his three brothers Joseph, Alfred and Henry Parvo and his sister Mary Silvia.His funeral will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2006, at 8:00am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am at Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway and Vernon Avenue, Newport. Burial will be at St. Columba?s Cemetery in Middletown. Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 17, 2006, from 3-7pm in the Memorial Funeral Home.
