Portsmouth, - Jesse Raposa, 92, of 42 Glen Road Portsmouth, died Friday, September 20, 2002 at Grand Islander Health Care Center Middletown, RI.He was the husband of the late Mary Nunes Silvia Raposa. Born in Portsmouth, RI on April 9, 1910, he was the son of the late Jesse and Maria Estrella Raposa.Mr. Raposa was a driver with the Town of Portsmouth, RI. Mr. Raposa was a communicant of St. Banabas Church an had served on its Feast Committee since it was started in 1976. He was also a menber of the Portugesse Night Committee. Mr. Raposa as a young man had worked on various farms in the Portsmouth area until he joined the Portsmouth Public Works Departmentin 1950. He had served as an Air Raid Warden in Portsmouth during World War II. After his retirement in 1975 he joined his brother at ?Lands End? as a gardener then in 1984 Mr. Raposa became the chruch Sexton at St. Barnabas Church in Portsmouth, RI till he retired in 1994. He is survived by his son Alfred Raposa of Portsmouth, RI, his daughter Rita DeSantis of Tiverton, RI, two brothers Manuel Raposa of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Frank Raposa of Porstmouth, RI, his sister Mary Alvanas of Portsmouth, RI, five grandsons and four great grandsons.He was the brother of the late John Raposa, Antone Raposa and Josephine White. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2002, at 9:00AM from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00AM in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road. Portsmouth, RI.Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown. Donations may be made in his memory to the St. Barnabas Church Building Fund, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
