Portsmouth, RI - Joan C. Hoyle, 82, of Portsmouth, died Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was the devoted wife of the late Thomas H. Hoyle. They shared a wonderful life of 60 years together. Together they raised a family of five in Somerset, MA and Portsmouth, RI. Born in Mount Vernon, NY on January 1, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and the late Marion (Fowler) Crawford. In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by her brother Frederick Crawford and her sister Alma Dunlop. She is survived by her children, Debra Poirier and her husband William, Thomas J. Hoyle of Covina, CA; Carol Calis and her husband Daniel, Jean Richardson and her husband Thomas of Somerset, MA; James Hoyle and his wife Glenna of Seekonk, MA, nine grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. Joan enjoyed moments with all of them. She is well known for being called "My Nana". The bond she shared with all of them will live on forever.Joan was a loving mother who was fortunate enough to stay home and care for her children. Thomas built a cottage along the Sakonnet River in Portsmouth for his family to enjoy during the summer months. The family shared many memorable times that will last forever. She was a kind, gentle soul that put everyone else first. She was a wonderful Mom, Nana, and friend who loved kids and made friends with people easily. She will be sadly missed by all that were part of her life.
