Joan Theresa Minor

Joan Theresa Minor, 84 of Newport died peacefully at Grand Islander Center on November 7, 2015. She was born January 31, 1931 in Bridgeport, Connecticut the daughter of the late James and Alice (Jones) Campbell. She grew up in Providence graduating from Central High School. She was married for 37 years to the late Charles E. Minor, Jr. and was employed by Peoples Credit Union.She served as the organist and senior choir director for Community Baptist Church in Newport for 20 years and was the Past Grand Worthy Matron of the Queen Esther Chapter of the Eastern Star. Along with her many hobbies of needlepoint, knitting, watching foreign movies and listening to her favorite classical or jazz artist, she was known as an expert gardener with her flower gardens winning numerous awards. She also volunteered in the Book Store at the Newport Library. She will be remembered as a gracious friend with a joyous sense of humor. She is survived by her three step-daughters, Gloria Wilson of Mount Dora, Florida, Carole Peterson of Newport, and Diane Minor of Columbia, Maryland, 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and many friends.A viewing will be held on Thursday, November 12 at 10:00 at Community Baptist Church, 50 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Boulevard in Newport with a funeral to follow at 11:00. The family is most appreciative of Dr. John McCaffrey and the staff of Grand Islander Center for the wonderful care given to Joan this past year.
