NEWPORT, RI - John ?Jack? A. Civic, 80, of Ella Terrace, Castle Hill, Newport, RI, passed away at home with his family by his side on Tuesday November 15, 2005. He was the husband of Audrey Kenyon Civic for 55 years.Born as John Cyckevic in Providence, RI on April 22, 1925 he was the son of the late Joseph and Amelia Sparks Cyckevic. Jack lived in Newport for the last 18 years. He served as member, president and board member of the Castle Hill Neighborhood Association with clear and distinct leadership.Mr. Civic was a Navy Veteran of WWII. He was employed by Cranston Print Works Co. beginning in 1954 as an order clerk then moving up as supervisor, production control manager, Webster Divisional Superintendent of production control, and finishing as production manager of the entire Cranston Sample Company before retiring in 1987. He was a 1949 graduate of U.R.I. Rhode Island State College. John received a B.S. in Business Administration in 1949, becoming a strong supporter of the University throughout his lifetime. John was a member of the Fraternity Lamba Chi Alpha and a member of the track team. As an active U.R.I. Alumni Club member, John was also a vice-president of the Ram Blue White Board, class agent, and member of the National Steering Committee. He had won the 2% fundraising award for working 25 consecutive nights for the phone-a-thon campaign, and received the Alumni Service Award in 1988. He proudly accepted the distinguished Ram Award in 1990 for giving 25 years of service to the university. He has served on the Long-Range Planning Committee for Development, the University?s Planning Committee, which is developing the master plan for the Kingston campus and served on the search committee for the University?s Athletic Fundraiser. John had a passion for golf and was a member of the Green Valley Country Club.Besides his wife he is survived by three sons, John Jack Civic, DVM of Jamestown, Craig Civic of Newport, and Glenn Civic of Warren, his four grandchildren, Justin, Benjamin, Laura and Nikita, one step grandchild, Lisa Ash, and one step great grandchild Alexandra Ash.He was preceded in death by a brother Joseph Cyckevic and a sister Helen McKenna.
