John A. Martin

- John A. Martin, 90, of 201 Forest Ave Middletown, formerly of Bayside Ave, Portsmouth and Aquidneck Place, Portsmouth, died Thursday, September 12, 2002 at Forest Farm Health Care Center Middletown, RI.He was the husband of the late Rebecca Anthony Martin. Born in Stonington, CT on May 25, 1912, he was the son of the late Alfred J. and Emma Gartside Martin. Mr. Martin retired from the Newport Electric Company in the Maintenance Dept. He was a graduate of Rogers High School. Mr. Martin was a member of St. Marys Episcopal Church in Portsmouth, and was on the vestry and had served as Senior Warden. Mr. Martin was a member of the Retirees of the Newport Electric Co. He was a member of the former Eureka Lodge #22 of Portsmouth and served as past Master. He is survived by his son Alfred Martin of Heidelberg, Germany, two grandsons, three great grandsons, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2002 at 11:00am in Calvary United Methodist Church, Turner and Wyatt Roads, Middletown. Burial will be private.
