John A. Monteiro, Jr

Newport, RI - John A. ?Tootise? Monteiro, Jr., 76, of Heatherwood Health Care Center, Newport, formerly of Chapel Terrace, Newport, died on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at Heatherwood Health Care Center in Newport. He was the husband of Joan Banks Monteiro of Virginia. Born in Newport, RI on January 3, 1931, he was the son of the late John A. and Jennie Pena Monteiro.Mr. Monteiro worked at the Newport Naval Base in Newport for many years as a cook.He was a member of the Cape Verdean Club in Newport and also enjoyed fishing. Besides his wife, he is survived by his two daughters, Noreen Monteiro and Lynn Monteiro, both of Virginia, three sisters, Denise Keesee of San Diego, CA, Juliann F. Anderson and Beverly A. Stedford, both of Newport, RI, his aunt, Leah Fernandez of Boston, MA, his cousins, Joan Ramos of Middletown, RI, and Bumpsey Fernandez of Boston, MA, a nephew, Michael Monteiro and a niece, Jean Monteiro, both of Newport, RI, six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, as well as many other nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Russell L. Monteiro and Manuel J. Monteiro. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at 10 am in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held Tuesday, December 11, 2007 from 2-4, 7-9 pm in the funeral home.
