John Archer

Middletown, RI - John Archer, 91, of 333 Green End Avenue, Middletown, RI, formerly of Blenheim Newport for 9 years and 51 Flintcorn Road, Portsmouth, died Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at Grand Islander Health Care Center.He was the husband for the past 71 years of Elizabeth M. Fietz Archer. Born in Norwood, MA on April 19, 1918, he was the son of the late Frank and Stacia OSadica Archer.Mr. Archer graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in Electronic Engineering. John served in the United States Army, during World War II. He worked for 40 years for the Federal Civil Service as an electronic engineer in the Natick Laboratorys in Natick MA in the climate chamber testing military apparel. Mr. and Mrs. Archer who had been married for 71 years were featured in an article in the Newport This Week and also on channels 10 and 12 for Valentines Day. They enjoyed road trips to Canada and he was always feeding the birds per Mrs. Archers request. Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter Joan E. Hoogendorn and her husband Victor J. Hoogendorn of Middletown, RI, his sister Ann Bacilici of Norwood, MA, his grandchildren, Lynn H. Cornell and her husband Jeffrey F. Cornell, Jr. and Robin E. Anderson and her husband Michael K. Anderson all of Portsmouth, RI and his great grandson Alexander John Cornell of Portsmouth, RI. His funeral will be held on Friday, October 9, 2009, at 11:00AM, in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours are omitted at the familys request.
