Newport, RI - John Arthur Rozes, 94, formerly of 117 Lawrence Avenue, Newport, RI, died Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at Heatherwood Nursing and Subacute Center, Newport, RI. He was the husband of Beatrice Mellen Rozes of Middletown, RI. Born in Alestina, Greece, on April 15, 1912, he was the son of the late Arthur and Ourania Tsironis Rozes.Mr. Rozes served in the United States Army during World War II. He was the former owner and operator of the Seven Seas Restaurant on Atlantic Beach in Middletown, the Capital Restaurant in Washington Square and the Modern Lounge on Broadway in Newport. Mr. Rozes was a member and past president of St. Spyridon?s Greek Orthodox Church, the American Legion Post #6782, the Order of AHEPA, the Masonic Temple and the Penobscot County Sports Association. He was a charter member of the Newport Rod Gun Association and he served as a Governor of the Newport Hospital. Mr. Rozes was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman. He enjoyed his hunting camp ?UTOPIA? in Maine where he spent many years hunting and fishing. The mountainous terrain reminded him of his village in Greece where he was born. He attributed his long healthy life by being able to spend time at ?UTOPIA?. Besides his wife of 57 years, he is survived by his son Komes Rozes of Middletown, RI, his daughter Ourania Rozes of Wynnewood, PA, and his grandson Yanni Jay Rozes of Middletown, RI. His funeral will be held on Monday, December 11, 2006, at 10:00am, from the Hambly Funeral Home, ?Brick House?, 30 Red Cross Avenue, Newport, with his funeral services at 11:00am, in St. Spyridons Greek Orthodox Church, 390 Thames Street, Newport. Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 10, 2006, from 1-5pm in the Hambly Funeral Home.
