John E. Hartley Jr

Middletown, RI - John E Hartley, Jr, 79, of 600 Valley Road Middletown, formerly of Newport, died Friday, February 4, 2005 at John Clarke Nursing Center Middletown, RI. He was the husband of the late Helen Louise Easton Hartley. Born in Columbia, SC on August 9, 1925, he was the son of the late John E Ruth Hartley. Mr. Hartley served in the US Navy for 20 years, enlisting during WWII. He served in the Pacific Theater on several different ship assigments. After his retirement from the Navy, he worked for Newport Roofing for 15 years. Mr. Hartley was a member of the Fleet Reserve and an avid Boston Red Sox fan. He is survived by two sons John E. Hartley III of Newport, RI, and Leonard Hartley of Middletown, RI, a daughter Melody Ferreira of Tiverton, RI, two brothers Robert Hartley George Hartley both of Virginia, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother Charles Hartley. A Memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 8, 2005, at 10:00 AM in John Clarke Retirement Center Chapel, 600 Valley Road, Middletown. Burial with military honors will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
