John Enwright

Newport, RI - John Jack Enwright, Jr., passed away on Monday, April 28, 2008 at Newport Hospital, after a brief illness, at the age of 76. Jack was the husband of Margaret Stewart Enwright and would have been married for 50 years this July. Jack was born in Newport, RI on September 10, 1931, son of the late John and Elizabeth Leys Enwright. He graduated from Rogers High School and R. I. Radio Institute. He also attended Brevard Engineering College, Melbourne, FL and La Salle University, Philadelphia, PA. He was an Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean War. He worked for RCA in the Bahamas, Cape Canaveral and Moorestown, NJ. After returning to Newport, he established his own business in 1986, Enwright Appraisal Service. He was the Past President of the Newport County Board of Realtors. He was a member of the Appraisal Institute, Newport County Chamber of Commerce, National Notarty Association, the Redwood Library and Athenaeum, the Newport Art Museum, Museum of Newport Irish History and a former member of the Newport Tax Appeal Board. Jack was known for his quick wit, humor and generosity. He was an avid salt water fisherman and conservationist. He was a major supporter of the Boys Scouts of America, serving as Scout Master for Troop 3 for several years. He was also a keen reader of history, astronomy and was a member of the Planetary Society. Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, John S. Enwright, his wife Karen and their son James of Newburgh, NY, his daughter Jane E. Cottrell, her husband Merchon and their daughter Meaghan of Merrimack, NH and his son Michael L. Enwright of Newport, RI, his sister-in-law Myrna Enwright of Newport, RI, his two favorite nephews Thomas and Mark Enwright, his niece Jean Carpenter, and his cousins Lila Farley and Alec OHanley. He is predeceased by his brothers William and Thomas Enwright. His funeral will be held on Friday, May 2, 2008, at 9:00 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Josephs Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2008, from 4-7pm in the funeral home.
