John Eyre

Newport, RI - John Michael Simon William Eyre, 71, of 19 Chapel Street, Newport, RI, died Thursday, March 8, 2007 at Heatherwood Nursing and Subacute Center, Newport, RI. Born in London, England, on May 10, 1935, he was the son of the late Edward and the Hon. Pelline Acton Eyre.Mr. Eyre grew up in New York and Newport. He graduated from Portsmouth Priory and Harvard University. He resided in New York and in the late 70?s he moved back to Newport where he was active in the local art community and politics. He is survived by his sons Michael Eyre of Portsmouth, RI, Christopher Eyre of Newport, RI, Giles Eyre and Julian Eyre of New York City, NY, his brothers Edward Eyre, Peter Eyre, Patrick Eyre of the UK, his sisters Dorothy Eyre Reminick of Jupiter, FL, and Caroline Eyre Cooper of the UK and five grandchildren, Thomas, Kathleen, Holly Eyre of Portsmouth, RI, and Makoto, and Akira Eyre of New York City, NY. He was the brother of the late Sir James Eyre. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 11, 2007, from 12-4pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.His mass and funeral will be held in New York.
