Middletown, RI - John Jack F. Maloney, 67, of 9 Maloney Lane, Middletown, RI, died after a 3 year fight with cancer on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at home with his family and friends. He was the husband of Rosemary Dutra Maloney.Born in Newport, RI on May 23, 1940, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Mary Beach Maloney.Jack was a 1957 graduate of De La Salle High School in Newport and a 1964 graduate of Providence College. He served in the United States Army National Guard for 6 years. Jack owned and operated Aquidneck Landscaping, worked for Paul Seveney as a carpenter, then began work as a self employed building contractor. Jack then took the position as the Middletown Building Inspector, where he held the position for over 20 years, retiring in 2005. He was on the Board of Governors and a member at Wanumetonomy Country Club as well as a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Jack was a member of the New England Building Officials Education Committee and President of the Rhode Island Builders Association. He was honored and proud to have been appointed to the State of Rhode Island Building Codes and Standards Commission where he was sworn in by the Governor. Jack loved golf, sailing and tennis and played at the Casino Indoor Tennis Club with the same tennis group every Wednesday night for over twenty years. He enjoyed reading, gardening, was an avid sports fan, but nothing pleased him more than time spent with his grandson. Besides his wife of 44 years, he is survived by his children, Jason Maloney of Deerfield Beach, FL, Jennifer Maloney Dring and her husband John T. Dring of Portsmouth, RI, his grandson Christopher Dring, of Portsmouth, RI, his sister-in-law Joanne Burns and her husband Mike, his brother-in-laws Manuel Dutra and his wife Candice, Tom Dutra and John Toppa, along many nieces, nephews and cousins.He was the father of the late Angela Elizabeth Maloney and the brother of the late Charles E. Maloney and Mary M. Toppa.His funeral will be held on Monday, February 11, 2008, at 9:00 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Marys Church, Spring Street, Newport.
