John Francis Sullivan, 81, of Newport died Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Village House Nursing Home of Newport, RI. Jack was born January 18, 1934 in Newport, RI. He is the son of the late Cornelius and Irene (Howard) Sullivan. Jack grew up in Newport and joined the US Air Force as a young man. He retired after 20 years in the Air Force, and spent nearly 17 years of his service overseas. After returning to Newport lived on Prospect Hill Street for many years and more recently at Chapel Street. He worked for several years as a security guard for the Sheraton Hotel on Goat Island and the Edgehill Estate. He also was a member of the Newport Elks Lodge.He is survived by his brothers Eugene Joseph Sullivan of Lakeworth, FL and Wendell Harris of Dover, DE and a sister Cornelius Sullivan Maricle of Newport, RI and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by two brothers Corenilus J. Sullivan, Jr. and Michael H. Sullivan; and a sister Maureen E. Roubidoux.Calling hours will be Wednesday, June 3 from 10:00-11:00am at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a funeral to follow at 11:00 am on in the Memorial Funeral Home, Burial will follow at St. Columba Cemetery.
