John Frederic Monk

Newport, RI - John ?Jack? Frederic Monk, 50, of 12 Park Holm Newport, died Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at home.He was the husband of Juanita Whitford Monk of Newport, RI. Born in Munich, Germany on December 1, 1953, he was the son of Charlotte Gibson Monk of Newport, RI and the late George W. Monk. Mr. Monk worked at the John Clarke Nursing Home until retiring in 2001. He was a 1973 graduate of Rogers High School, where he was a member of the ROTC. Mr. Monk was a member of the Middletown Baptist church, where he was an usher and active in the soup kitchen. He enjoyed salt water fishing with his father George Monk, as well as an avid bowler in several leagues, both duck and 10 pin. Mr. Monk was honored at Cardines Field as an Honored Fan of the Gulls Baseball Team. Besides his wife and mother he is survived by his brother Rev. Richard A. Monk of Newport, RI, his sister Pamela S. Kopplin of Portsmouth, RI, two stepdaughters Lorraine A. Whitford of Woodbridge, VA and Annette M. Duncan of Virginia Beach, VA, nine step grandchildren, three nieces, two nephews and a great niece and great nephew. His funeral will be held on Monday, February 16, 2004, at 11:00AM, in Middletown Baptist Church, 1818 West Main Road, Middletown. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown. Donations in his memory may be made to the Visiting Nurse Hospice Care, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
