Newport, RI - John R. Pete Furtado, 86, formerly of 44 Burnside Avenue, Newport, died Friday, August 1, 2008 at Heatherwood Nursing and Subacute Center, Newport, RI. He was the husband of the late Lorraine Brownell Furtado. Born in Newport, RI on Sep. 8, 1921, he was the son of the late Manuel and Luiza Perry Furtado.Mr. Furtado, a proud WW II U.S. Army Veteran, was a member of St. Josephs Church in Newport. He was an Eagle Scout in his youth and a union carpenter in Newport in his adult life, working on the construction of the Newport Bridge. He is survived by two daughters Judith A. Gadoury and her husband Williamof Windham, NH, Lisa J. Clark and her husband Jeremy of Westford, MA. He also leaves a grandson William J. Gadoury of Malden, MA. He is also survived by a brother Charles Furtado of Newport, RI, and a sister Agnes Rogers of CA. He was the brother of the late Manuel Joseph Furtado, Manuel Ernest Furtado, Albert Daniel Furtado, William Furtado, George Furtado, Francis Furtado, Richard Furtado, Anthony Furtado, Louise Santos, Mary Gonsalves, Albertina Shaffell as well as infant brothers Francis and Albert FurtadoHis funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 5, at 9:30am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Josephs Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.Calling hours will be held Tuesday Morning from 8 - 9:30am in the funeral home.
