John "Jack" F. Verespy

Portsmouth, RI - John "Jack" F. Verespy, 65 of Portsmouth, RI died Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at home with his wife by his side. He was the beloved husband of Rita A. (Mazur) Verespy.Born in Bridgeport, CT on March 20, 1948, he was the son of the late William E. and Elizabeth (Gallagher) Verespy.Jack graduated from St. Joseph's High School in Trumbull, CT, where he was the first starting quarterback for the school's football team. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. Jack was self employed and specialized in the sales and marketing of thermoplastic resin. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and sailing on the "Hotel California" with his wife Rita and their friends. He was a gourmet cook and enjoyed bringing people together with fine wine and delicious meals. He also enjoyed seeking out antiques and treasures. Jack was a member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG).The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff of the Miriam Hospital, Comprehensive Cancer Center for their compassionate care over the years.Besides his wife Rita of 41 years, he is survived by his brother William Verespy, and his wife Kathy of Shelton, CT, and his mother-in-law Mary S. Mazur, of Bridgeport, CT, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.Calling hours will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2013, from 1:00-3:00 pm in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth. Donations in his memory may be made to the, Miriam Hospital, Comprehensive Cancer Center, 164 Summit Avenue, Providence, RI 02906 or the URI Foundation, in memory of John Verespy, 79 Upper College Road, Kingston, RI 02881.
