John Jennings, a longtime resident of Newport and Middletown, Rhode Island passed away on Thursday, July 4th, 2024. Born on February 20th, 1930 to the late Frank H. Jennings and Anna Blumburg Jennings, he is predeceased by his brother Frank and sisters Eva and Francis, and his beloved wife, Mary "Pat" Jennings.
John always wanted to "Make it to 94," which he achieved admirably this year. After serving in the Navy in Newfoundland and working with his brother Frank at Johnson Brother's Oil Company, he began a 33 year career at AT&T. John was a lineman who climbed telephone poles and installed phone systems all over the island. John was also a devoted member and trustee of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Newport and a member of the North End Club in Middletown.
Family was so important to John. He enjoyed his pool, deck and many family gatherings. John is survived by his daughter, Patricia Jennings and her partner, Jean Bourgeois, of Middletown, his sons, John Jennings, Jr. of Tiverton, and William Jennings of Middletown, and his daughter, Amy Ciccone and her husband John, of Washington, DC. He was also proud of his grandsons, Andrew Jennings of Newport and Nicholas Jennings of Tiverton, and his two great-grandsons, Charlie and Alex Jennings. We will genuinely miss his love and presence in our lives.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Newport on Wednesday, July 10th at 4:00PM. Flowers may be sent to Memorial Funeral Home in Newport or St. Paul's Church on Marlborough St. If you would like to make a donation in John's name, please consider St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 12 Marlborough St, Newport https://www.stpaulsumcnewportri.com/ or the Dr. Martin Luther King Center, 20 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Blvd, Newport https://mlkccenter.org/
