Middletown, RI - John J. Brown, Jr., 70, of 528 Green End Ave, Middletown, RI, died Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, RI. He was the husband of Arleen Tobin Brown for 46 years. Born in Newport, RI on May 4, 1939, he was the son of the late John J. and Anna Dowd Brown.Jack graduated from De La Salle Academy in 1956. He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving on the USS Buck and USS Forrestal. Jack spent his entire working career as a lineman for NE Telephone. More recently he also worked as a sexton at Calvary United Methodist Church. Jack was a communicant of St. Lucys Church where he was a Eucharistic Minister and volunteered for the soup kitchen. He loved the time spent with his family and keeping track of his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Arleen Brown of Middletown, RI, and two sons Shawn J. Brown and his wife Celia Casey Brown of Middletown, RI, and Christopher M. Brown of San Ramon, CA, two grandchildren Noelle Casey Brown and Aidan Kennedy Brown, as well as several nieces and nephews. His funeral will be held on Monday, March 8, at 8:00am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held Sunday, March 7 from 4:00-7:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice, in Johns name.
