Bubbles? Todd Diehl. Born in Springfield, MA on July 5, 1916, he was the son of the late John Jacob and Mary Grace Nelligan Diehl. Mr. Diehl attended Springfield Public School, Catherdral High School and Springfield College in Springfield, MA. He entered the United States Marines when World War II started as a PFC and earned his rank of Captain over the years. Capt. Diehl was in the 1st Marine Division and the 4th Marine Division during WII and Korea , during WW II while on Iwo Jima he saw the original flag raised over the Island of Iwo Jima. After being discharged from the Marine Corps he joined the ACacia Mutual life insurance Company from 1962-1979. As a Member of Trinity Church for over 40 years Mr. Diehl had served on the cemetery board, acted a tour guide, and as an Usher and Vestry for Trinity Church. He was a member of the F.O.P. in Middletown, also the Navy League and was one its past Presidents. He was a member of the Marine Detachment on board the Sloop Providence. Besides his wife Margaret ? Bubbles ? Diehl of 60 years he is survived by two daughters Karen Anita Reller of Gainsville, FL, and Deborah Loeffler of El Cajon, CA, three grandchildren Lt. Jason S. Reller, USN of Mayport, FL, Lauren E. Loeffler of Crystal City, VA, and John C. Loeffler II of El Cajon, CA.He was the father of the late John Evan Diehl and the brother of the late Robert W. Diehl. A Communion service will be held on Thursday, December 23, 2004, at 11:00 AM in Trinity Church, Queen Anne Square, Newport. Burial will be private.
