Middletown, RI - John Joseph Parsonage, Jr., 73, of 116 Prospect Avenue, Lot #9, Middletown, RI, died Friday, October 2, 2009 at home with his wife by his sideHe was the husband of Vilma Ann Wright Parsonage. Born in Newport, RI on July 11, 1936, he was the son of the late John J. and Adele Oakley Parsonage.Mr. Parsonage was the assistant manager for Charlies 5 10 on William Street in Newport for 35 years, retiring in 2005. He also worked at JJ Newberrys for 10 years as an assistant manager. John was an avid gardener and coin collector. He enjoyed the beach, playing softball and vacationing with his family. Besides his wife of 20 years, he survived by his children, John M. Parsonage and his wife Linda of Ames, IO, David Parsonage and his wife Maureen of McKinney, TX, Kevin Parsonage and his wife Debra of Portsmouth, RI and Lynn Cable and her husband Bruce of Lebanon, TN, his brother Paul J. Parsonage of Costa Rica, his sisters, Marilyn Edenbach of Newport, RI, Ellen A. Wright of Naples, FL and Nancy Harmon of Portsmouth, RI, nine grandchildren, and his step children Debra and Bruce Hoffman of Middletown, RI and Cynthia Baker Thomas of Newport, RI.He was the father of the late Anne Marie Parsonage and the brother-in-law of the late Robert Harmon. A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at 10:30 am in VFW, 52 Underwood Lane, Middletown, RI.Burial will be private..Calling hours will be held on Monday, October 5, 2009, from 4-8 in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Donations in his memory may be made to the James L. Maher Center, PO Box 4390, Middletown, RI 02842.
