John Joseph Pettiglio

Newport, RI - John Joseph Pettiglio, 47, of 81 Garfield Street, Newport, RI, died Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at 2:30PM of lung cancer. Born in Haverhill, MA, on July 14, 1959, he was the son of the late John William Pettiglio and Joan Delores Fowler, the brother of Jeffrey William Pettiglio. John attended primary school in New Hampshire and graduated from Middletown High School in 1977. Proud of his vocation as a chef, he worked at many restaurants and catering companies in Newport. In the world of ideas, movies, and especially music, John was a champion of the marginal, the obscure and the underappreciated. He opened the minds and ears of his friends at a young age, one of the many reasons that they will always be grateful to have known him. John left us with his dignity and faculties intact, without a trace of self-pity, at home surrounded by family, friends and hospice c ompanions at his side. He is laid to rest in New Hampshire, next to his father. An informal memorial gathering will be held at his home on Saturday, September 16, for those who wish to attend
