Middletown, RI - John M. Teves, 75, of 20 Spruce Avenue, Middletown, RI, died Friday, August 14, 2009 at Newport Hospital.John is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years Marilyn Tierney Teves.Born in Newport, RI on April 30, 1934, he was the son of Mary Jordan Teves of Middletown and the late Manuel Teves.John graduated from Rogers High School where he was a member of the R.O.T.C. Upon graduation he served in the Army as a Paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. John served in Japan during the Korean War earning many honors, including the Purple Heart.John Jackie, as some know him grew up on The Point in Newport and one of his many passions was sailing in his first boat, The Chuck Walla. He was an avid sailor winning the very first race he entered. Sailing was something he enjoyed throughout his life.John worked as a stonemason, both as a member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers Local 1 in Cranston and also as founder of John M. Teves and Sons, Masonry Contractors. He was involved in many restoration projects on Aquidneck Island including Brick Market Place, Bowens Wharf and many others. John was also a member of the Middletown F.O.P.A.Besides his wife and mother he leaves four sons Timothy C. Teves of Middletown, Jeffrey A. Teves of Portsmouth, Thomas Skip R. Kelly III of Vermont, and Timothy J. Kelly of Barrington. He also leaves two daughters Pamela A. Little of Portsmouth, and Lynn A. Kelly of Middletown. He was the Boppa of Brandon C. Little, Abigail M. Little and Marissa E. Little all of Portsmouth, Olivea M. Kelly of Barrington, Stephanie K. Teves and John T. Teves both of Portsmouth.John was the brother of the late Arthur R. Teves. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at 7:00 pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.Calling hours will be held Wednesday evening from 4 - 7 pm in the funeral home.
