Middletown, RI - John Marshall ?Hobby? ?Pappy? Hobgood, 83, of Middletown, RI, formerly of Plainview, NY and Huntington, NY, died Friday, May 4, 2007. He was the husband of the late Adele Bank Hobgood. Born in Fountain Hill, AR on October 15, 1923, John joined the United States Navy at the age of 17, serving in WWII from 1941-1946 as Chief Radarman. He served on the cruiser Brooklyn, and aircraft carriers Hancock and Franklin D. Roosevelt plank owner. John earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado-Boulder in 1950 and joined the Naval Air Warfare Center in China Lake, Ca. He was employed by Sperry Unisys working in marketing and contracts management for 34 years, including a year as Corporate Liaison during the Japanese reconstruction. John was a Boy Scouts of America Scout Master and served on the consistory of the Plainview Reformed Church. He also served two terms as Food Pantry President in Huntington, NY. John enjoyed boating, fishing, and playing cards. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. John was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Adele, his brother Thomas and sister Mildred Nylander.He is survived by his son John Hobgood and daughter in law Deborah of Saunderstown, RI, and his daughter Sherry Lynn Pomeroy and son in law Dean of Orchard Park, NY, grandsons Adam Hobgood, Andrew Hobgood and his wife Sabrina, Marshall Pomeroy and his wife Laura and Corey Pomeroy, his great grandchildren Dale and Danika Hobgood, his niece Joan Siff and her husband Daniel, great nephews Andrew Siff and Michael Siff, sister in law Rose Bank, nephews Stephan, Jeevan and Lewis Bank, nieces Patti Ann Villarqui and Marilyn Turner Greenberg and her husband Lanny and five great nieces and nephews. The family extends special thanks to the staff at Blenheim-Newport for their help and support.Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 11, 2007, at 2:30pm and are open to the public. Family and friends will meet at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI, at 12:30pm, and proceed to the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.In lieu of flowers please donate to your local council of Boy Scouts of America designated to Scouting for Food program, or the Plainview Reformed Church, 560 Old Bethpage Road, Plainview, NY 11803.
