Middletown, - John P. Broskie, Jr., 84, of 66 Fenner Ave Middletown, died unexpectedly Saturday, February 15, 2003 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI after a short illness. He was the husband of Helen Lulyk Broskie. Born in Worcester, MA on February 2, 1919, he was the son of the late John P. and Mary Montvile Broskie. Mr. Broskie was born and raised in western Massachussetts. He graduated from Palmer High School in 1937 where he was a football star and a member of the Drum and Bugle Corps. In 1942, he entered the US Navy as a corpsman, eventually retiring from active service in 1962. During WWII, he worked at the Newport Naval Hospital as a Bacteriologist. During the 1960?s and 70s Mr. Broskie was active with the Middletown Little League and Babe Ruth League, serving as a coach on several different teams. His 1969 Babe Ruth team won the state championship. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW and Middletown Senior Center, and St. Josephs Church. Besides his wife he leaves two sons Paul Broskie of Chelmsford, MA, and John P. Broskie III of Middletown, RI, a sister Victoria Wells of CA, and five grandchildren.
