John P. Viveiros

Newport, - John P. Viveiros Jr., 80, of 8 Dexter Street Newport, died Thursday, April 10, 2003 at home.He was the husband of Geraldine Carrigan Viveiros. Born in St. Miguel, the Azores on June 25, 1922, he was the son of the late John P. and Frances Perreira Viveiros.Mr. Viveiros was a 1941 graduate of Rogers High School. He worked as a Lithographer in the URI Printing Department. He served in the United States Army during WWII in Europe. Mr. Viveiros was President of the Holy Name Society at Jesus Saviour Church, chairman of the Island Watch Dogs and chairman of the board of Tenants Affairs. He founded and operated the Johnnycake Center in Newport for 24 years. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. Mr. Viveiros was a former boy scout leader for Troop 7 in Pawtucket and was involved in the Cropwalk and the Catholic Charity Drive. Besides his wife of 56 years he is survived by seven sons John P. Viveiros III of Olimpia, WA, Paul Viveiros of Providence, RI, Richard Viveiros of West Warwick, RI, Stephen Viveiros of Middletown, RI, Peter Viveiros of Newport, RI, Robert Viveiros of Staten Island, NY, and Jacob Viveiros of Newport, RI, six daughters Geraldine Cassese of Westerly, RI, Eileen Viveiros of Portsmouth, RI, Kathleen Viveiros of Middletown, RI, Christine Sacco and Francine Nelson both of Portsmouth, RI, and Maureen Viveiros of Newport, RI, three brothers Marion Viveiros of Portsmouth, RI, Joseph Viveiros of Newport, RI and Edward Viveiros of New Jersey, his sister Mary Viveiros of New Hampshire, twenty one grandchildren and four great grandchildren. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at 9:00 AM from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 AM in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway And Vernon Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.
