John Richard Lema, 79, of Portsmouth died Saturday, September 8, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family.Mr. Lema was born March 16, 1933 in Fall River, MA. He was the son of the late Joseph and Maria (Couto) Lema. He was married to the late Anna Marie Gomes. Mr. Lema worked for many years for Pearson Yachts in Portsmouth, RI. He also worked at Clements Market in Portsmouth, and considered the staff there as his second family. He loved watching boxing and hockey. His passion was food, he loved a good meal. His family and his truck were his loves. He was in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a very loving and caring father, grandfather, brother and friend.He is survived by his daughters, Janet Lema of Portsmouth, RI, Cheryl Tedesco and her husband William J. of Tiverton, RI, and Donna Lema-Morrel and her husband Rene of Portsmouth, RI, his sister Rose Cowan, his grandchildren, Ann Marie Botelho, Megan Marie and Hayley Marie Tedesco, and a large extended family and many nieces and nephews and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him. Calling hours will be held on, Sunday September 16, 2012, from 3-7pm in Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI. His funeral will be held on Monday September 17, 2012 at 9:00 am in the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI Burial will be in Portsmouth Cemetery, Turnpike Avenue, Portsmouth.
