Portsmouth, - John ?Dick? Fales, Jr., 56, of 1250 Anthony Road Portsmouth, formerly of Colonial Avenue, Tiverton, and Bristol, RI, died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at St. Annes Hospital Fall River, MA.He was the husband of Deborah S. Swallow Fales of Portsmouth. Born in Providence, RI on March 27, 1947, he was the son of Barbara Bolster Fales of Sanibel, FL and the late John Richmond Fales.Mr. Fales graduated from Babson College in Beverly, MA with a B.S. in business. He and his father developed Bend Boat Basin and he continued as President of the company until he sold it in 1986. Mr. Fales also was founder and President of Fales Yacht Sales. He was a member of the Bristol Rotary Club, the Bristol Yacht Club and a member and past president of the Twenty-Hundred Club. He was an avid sailor and won several championships in Narragansett Bay. For several years, he was a Trustee of the Johnstone Foundation. Mr. Fales was a licensed pilot and a member of AOPA. For the past six years, he and his wife shared a passion for building and developing various properties in Newport County. Besides his wife and mother he is survived by three sons Stephen Smith of Central Falls, RI, Ryan Fales of Fall River, MA, and Peter Fales of Portsmouth, RI, his step son Scott Wagner of Harlingen, TX, two step daughters Kim DeFusco of Haverhill, MA, and Bethany Chagnon of Portsmouth, RI, two sisters Nancy B. Fales of Tiverton, RI, and Eleanor ?Ellie? Hibbert of Tiverton, RI, and six grandchildren.A Memorial service will be held on Monday, July 7, 2003, at 1:00 PM in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial in Riverside Cemetery, Pawtucket will be private following the Memorial service.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Robert Potter League for Animals, PO Box 412, Middletown, RI 02842.
