Jamestown, RI - John Rogers ?Roger? Chase, 63, of 7 Melrose Avenue Jamestown, died Tuesday, December 22, 2004 at Philip Hulitar Center in Providence, RI.Roger was the husband of Carol Reynolds Chase. Born in Newport, RI on December 6, 1941, he was the son of the late Dean M. and Kathleen L. Nagle Chase. Mr. Chase was a teacher at the Jamestown Elementary School for 32 years, where he taught 7th and 8th Grade English. He also served as Principal of that school from 1973-1979. Over the years, he served as a tennis pro at Baileys Beach in Newport, in Sharon, CT, in Milbrook, NY, at Plumb Beach in Saunderstown, RI, and the Conanicut Yacht Club in Jamestown. He also served as a paddle tennis pro at Conanicut and organized the paddle tennis program at the Newport Country Club. Roger was a volunteer for Hospice and the Red Cross. Roger was a 26 year member of Alcoholics Anonymous. Besides his wife of 40 years he is survived by two sons Dean R. Chase of Portsmouth, RI, and Gregory J. Chase of Jamestown, RI, two sisters Judith Buxbaum of Portsmouth, RI, and Janet Gurney of Cary, NC, and three grandchildren.A Memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 9, 2005 at 2:00pm, in Central Baptist Church, 99 Narrangansett Avenue, Jamestown. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Home Hospice Care Of Rhode Island Foundation, P.O. Box H, Providence, RI 02901-9979 and Jamestown Medical Fund,P.O. Box 236, Jamestown, RI 02835. -
