Portsmouth, RI - John S. Pencak, Sr., 84, of 691 Park Avenue, Portsmouth, RI, died Monday, February 19, 2007 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the husband of the late Madeline G. Gosciminski Pencak. Born in Fall River, MA on December 27, 1922, he was the son of the late Joseph and Katherine Renkewicz Pencak.Mr. Pencak was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corporation in 1938 then went to work for Arrow Sign Company in Fall River until 1942 when he joined the Merchant Marines until 1945 and then served in the United States Army for the remainder of World War II. He later worked for Acme Metal Shop for 7 years and worked for Raytheon as a material handler until retiring in 1984 after 17 years. Mr. Pencak was a member of the Polish Vets of Fall River, the KOSUKA Club in Fall River the Montaup Country Club and the Sakonnet Sportsman Club. He is survived by his children, John S. Pencak, Jr. and his wife Madeleine of Portsmouth, RI, Andrew Gacioch and his wife Christine of Somerset, MA, and Madelyn Bruneau of Portsmouth, RI, his brother, Mathew Pensak of Danielson, CT, his sister, Mary Krupa of New Britian, CT, five grandchildren, Robert Singleton, Mathew Bruneau, Tara A. Gacioch, Andrew L. Gacioch II and Timothy P. Gacioch, 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Casmier Pensak, Frank Pensak, Stanley Pensak, Walter Pensak and Helen Accardio. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2007 from 6-8 in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.The funeral and burial will be private.
