John Scott Biddle

Jamestown, RI - John Scott Biddle, 83, of 201 Beavertail Road, Jamestown, RI, died Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at John Clarke Health Care Center, Middletown, RI. Born in Philadelphia, PA on June 7, 1925, he was the son of the late Brigadier General Nicholas and Sarah Lippincott Biddle.Mr. Biddle served in the United States Army during WWII and during the Korean War with the First Philadelphia City Troop. He was a prominent yachting cinematographer, famous for his Americas Cup coverage. Mr. Biddle was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church, where he served as a lay reader and member of the choir for many years. He also sang with the Jamestown Community Chorus. He was the husband of Amy McKay Biddle of Philadelphia, whom he married in 1977. He is also survived by his daughter Sophie Biddle Hakim of Los Angles, CA, his son John Scott Biddle, Jr. of Northampton, MA, his stepchildren, Winifred Lane vanRoden of New York, NY, Peter Cook vanRoden of Stamford, CT and Julia McKay vanRoden of Old Greenwich, CT, as well as his siblings Nicholas Biddle, Jr., and Sarah Lee Stokes of Philadelphia and Wharton Biddle of Jamestown and eight grandchildren. He was also the brother of the late Joanna Biddle Johnson. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 6, 2008, at 11:00am, in St. Matthews Episcopal Church, 87 Narragansett Avenue, Jamestown. Burial will be private.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to both, the Jamestown Community Chorus, 99 Narragansett Avenue, Jamestown, RI 02835 and St. Matthews Church, 87 Narragansett Avenue, Jamestown, RI, 02835.
