John V. Cochrane

Newport, RI - John V. Cochrane, 72, of RI Veterans Home, Bristol, died Sunday, June 14, 2009 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, RI. Born in Newport, RI on February 23, 1937, he was the son of the late Blanchard W. and Florence Verris Cochrane.Mr. Cochrane was a maintenance worker for the elderly affairs at the Portsmouth Senior Multi Purpose Center. He was a member of the VFW 406 and the American Legion. He is survived by his brother Leon Cochrane of Ogden, UT, his sisters Jane Toppa of Newport, RI, Florence Sousa of New Bedford, MA and Betty Nichols of Middletown, RI and several nieces and nephews.He was the brother of the late Sgt. Blanchard Cochrane, KIA Vietnam, Barbara Dopart and Alice Noonen. His funeral will be held on Friday, June 19, 2009, at 11:00am, in St. John the Evangelist, 61 Poplar Street, Newport. Burial will be in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.Calling hours will be held from 9-10am, the morning of his service.
