Jamestown, RI - John Volpe, 88, of 275 East Shore Road, Jamestown, RI, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at Heatherwood Nursing and Subacute Center, Newport, RI.He was the husband of Eleanor M. White Volpe. Born in Providence, RI on May 26, 1921, he was the son of the late Ermelindo Volpe and Doratea Barricelli Volpe.Mr. Volpe worked for 50 years for the Providence Journal first as a pressman after WWII and retiring as credit manager in 1986. He was an inductee into Providence Boys Club Hall of Fame in 1987. A communicant of St. Marks Church in Jamestown, an avid golfer and swimmer. Mr. Volpe was an avid baseball fan, an accomplished baseball player who played for the USGG and Army teams during World War II. Besides his wife of 65 years, he is survived by his daughters Maureen Volpe of Jamestown, RI and Mary Catherine Pomert of Newport, RI, his brother Armand Volpe of North Providence, RI, his sister Reggetta LHeureux of Warwick, RI, and his granddaughter Nicole Pomert. His funeral will be held on Monday, April 5, 2010, at 10:00am, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am, in St. Mark Church, 60 Narragansett Avenue, Jamestown.Burial will be in St. Mark Cemetery in Jamestown.Calling hours will be held the morning of the service from 9-10am in the funeral home.
