John Weaver Stare

Portsmouth, - John Weaver Stare, 85, of 175 Mass Boulevard Portsmouth, died Saturday, January 18, 2003 at 175 Mass Boulevard Portsmouth, RI.He was the husband of June Ellen Brown Davis Stare and husband of the late Dorothy Poff Stare. Born in York, PA on October 29, 1917, he was the son of the late Claude and Katherine Weaver Stare. Mr. Stare served in the U.S. Army during WWII reaching the rank of Captain. He was the band director for Middletown Public Schools for 20 years retiring in 1979. He founded and organized the Newport Concert Band an was it?s first conductor. He was a member of St. Marys Episcopal Church in Portsmouth. Besides his wife he leaves a son John M. Stare of San Diego, CA, a daughter Rose-Anne Costigan of Ft. Myers, FL, two sisters Violet Keathley of Mexia, TX, and Roberta Metz of Clearwater, FL, and three grandchildren.He was the brother of the late Ruth Bostic.His funeral will be held Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 11:00 AM in St. Marys Episcopal Church, 324 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in St. Marys Churchyard in Portsmouth. Donations may be made in his memory to St. Mary?s Episcopal Churchyard, 324 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
