Newport, - Jose ?Joe Green? Amaral, 88, of 10 Dodge Court Newport, died Friday, September 20, 2002 at home.He was the beloved husband of Ermelinda Andrade Amaral. Born in Villa Franco do Campo, San Miguel, Azores, on December 29, 1913, he was the son of the late Francisco and Flora Araujo Amaral.Mr. Amaral came to the United States in 1944 at the age of 30. Soon after he arrived, he entered in the United States Army. He worked for the Rhode Island Nurseries for 28 years, and later worked for Island Cemetery Co. Mr. Amaral was a parishoner of Jesus Saviour Church and he was very active in the former Aquidneck Lanes bowling leagues for more than 30 years. Most recently he held court at George?s Barber Shop and Dunkin Donuts. Besides his wife of 54 years, he is survived by two daughters Flora Kirchart of Santa Ana, CA, and Lucia Arruda of Portsmouth, RI, four sons Joe Amaral of Newport, RI, Carlos Amaral of Somerville, NJ, Francisco Amaral of Newport, RI, and Michael Amaral of Long Island City, NY, twelve grandchildren and two great granddaughters.He was the brother of the late Francisco Amaral, Antonio Amaral, Manuel Amaral, Maria Braga, Trinidad Medeiros, Conceicoa Bento and Hortencia Silvia. His funeral will be held on Monday, September 23 at 8:00am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 9:00am in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway And Vernon Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
