Portsmouth, RI - Joseph Anthony Perry Silvia, 86, of 23 Sequoia Lane, Portsmouth, died Friday, December 3, 2004 at home.He was the husband of Belmira Souza Silvia. Born in Portsmouth, RI on November 4, 1918, he was the son of the late Joseph R. and Philomeua Pereira Silvia. Mr. Silvia was in the United States Navy for 8 years and the United States Army for 12 years, serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He worked at the Portsmouth Post Office as a postal clerk for 20 years, retiring in 1980. Mr. Silvia was a communicant and usher for over 20 years at St. Anthonys Church in Portsmouth. He was also a member and quarter master of the Portsmouth VFW for over 20 years, a member of the DAV and he enjoyed traveling. Besides his wife of 53 years he is survived by three daughters Joanne Powe and Betty-Jo Silvia both of Portsmouth, RI, and Marie Rhea of Warren, RI, his sister Mary Madeline Sylvia of Clarkesville, IN, two grandchildren and one great grandson. His funeral will be held on Monday, December 6, 2004, at 9:00AM, from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00AM, in St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown. Donations in his memory may be made to the Portsmouth Volunteer Fire Dpt. Rescue Wagon Fund, P.O. Box 806, Portsmouth, RI 02871 or to the Visiting Nurse Services Of Newport Bristol Cos, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
