Middletown, RI - Joseph Borges, 86, of, Middletown, RI, died Friday, July 22, 2011 at his home in Middletown, RI surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Dorothy Chlapowski Borges. Born in Bristol, RI on September 3, 1924, he and his family moved to Middletown when Joe was 5, he was the son of the late Manuel and Mary Rebello Borges.Joe, AKA ?Half Cup Joe? worked at Raytheon for 21 years, retiring as Supervisor in the Shipping and Packaging Department. As a young man he pitched in the Sunset League in Newport, and then served in the US Army in the European Theater during World War II. In his free time, Joe enjoyed bowling, golf and gardening, but sincerely loved the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 63years Dorothy Borges of Middletown, RI, and his children Cynthia Borges of Middletown, RI, Joseph Borges Jr. and his wife Deborah of Freemont, CA, Pamela Correia and her husband Gregory of Middletown, RI, Gary Borges and his fiance Tammy Noetzel of Middletown, RI, Tina Borges-Druth and her husband Steven Druth of Andover, MA, and his seven grandchildren, Amy, Adrea, Shauna, and Aaron Borges, Kelsey Beaudoin, and Alec and Aliya Druth, as well as his sisters Ida Dootson and June Sanders. He also leaves many, many friends, he was loved by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his brothers Arthur and Everett Borges, and his sister Hilda Witt.Calling hours will be held Tuesday, July 26 from 4:00-7:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 27, at 9:00am in Memorial Funeral Home.
