Joseph C. Milner, 84, of Venice, Fl, formerly of Middletown, RI, died Sunday, September 13, 2009 at Newport Hospital.He was the devoted husband of the late Jacqueline Jackie Barker Milner.Born in Newport on December 11, 1924, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Brigid Lawless Milner.Mr. Milner was a special services installer for N.E. Telephone before retiring in 1983. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of the Submarine Veterans of WWII. He was a communicant of St. Lucys Church in Middletown. He enjoyed boating, especially aboard his boat Romi Joba.He is survived by his children, Robert J. Milner of Colorado, Michael J. Milner and his wife Linda of Warwick, RI, Joseph P. Milner and Barbara A. Milner, both of Newport, RI; and his grandchildren, Michael, Patricia and Jennifer Milner. He was the brother of the late Mary Milner.Visiting hours will held on Saturday, September 19, 2009 from 11 am - 1 pm followed by a memorial service at 1 pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to VNS of Newport Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871 or to St. Marys Submarine Museum, 102 St. Marys Street West, Saint Marys, GA 31558-4945.
