Joseph Charles Kriner, Sr

Newport, RI - Joseph Charles Kriner, Sr., 75, of Newport, RI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 surrounded by his family.He was the husband of 52 years to Jean Elizabeth DeWick Kriner. Born in Danville, PA on November 8, 1933, he was the son of the late John H. and Agnes Roup Kriner.Mr. Kriner was a retired Department of Defense Police officer where he worked for 25 years. He was a member of St. Marys Episcopal Church in Portsmouth. He was a member of the Narragansett Council of Boy Scouts for several years as a Boy Scout leader and he also coached girls softball for Newport Recreation. Joe was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War, a Veteran of the Rhode Island National Guard, and worked as a Newport Auxiliary Policeman. His hobbies included camping, cooking, reading and walking. Besides his wife he is survived by his three daughters, Lorretta Kriner of Newport, RI, Lavenia Tasso and her husband Arthur of Newport, RI; Lynn Floriano and her husband Mariano of Fall River, MA, his two sons Joseph Kriner Jr., of Newport RI and Mitchell Kriner and his wife Diana of Newport, RI, his son-in-law Emanual Floriano, several grandchildren and one great grandchild, his brother David Ervin Kriner and his sister Jean Hess of Danville, PA.He is looking forward to reunite with his youngest daughter Evelee Kriner Floriano. He was the brother of the late Paul A. Kriner and John H. Kriner, Jr. His funeral will be held on Monday, October 5, 2009, at 10:00 am in St. Marys Episcopal Church, 324 East Main Road, Portsmouth.Burial will be in St. Marys Churchyard in Portsmouth.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2009, from 4-7pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. RI.
