Middletown, RI - Joseph Dennis Silveira, 91, of 3 Silveira Drive, Middletown, RI, died on Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at home surrounded by his familyHe was the husband of Beatrice Raposa Silveira. Born in Middletown, RI on August 17, 1919, he was the son of the late Manuel D. and Mary Soares Silveira.Mr. Silveira served in the United States Army during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and Philipine Liberation Company F 172nd infantry receiving two purple hearts. After the Army he worked at Brinley Street garage in Newport as an auto, truck and farm equipment agent for International Homesetters until opening his own truck and farm repair on 963 Aquidneck Avenue in Middletown as Silveiras Garage until he sold it in 1981. Mr. Silveira was a communicant of Jesus Saviour Church. He enjoyed his vegetable garden and being a Snow Bird going to Kissamee Florida for the winter from 1981 to 2004. Besides his wife of 62 years, he is survived by his children, Joseph D. Silveira, Jr. and his wife Donna Gouveia Silveira, Richard D. Silveira, Francis D. Silveira and his wife Joanne Jerome Silveira all of Middletown, RI and Phyllis M. Moniz and her husband Jeffrey of Portsmouth, RI, his brothers Manuel D. Silveira and John D. Silveira both of Middletown, RI, his sisters Mary Dopart of Portsmouth, RI and Agnes Pasquale of Middletown, RI, his grandchildren., Joseph D. Silveira, III and his wife Lindsey, Lisa M. Silveira, Richard D. Silveira, Mary E. Silveira all of Middletown, RI, Jeffrey J. Moniz, Jr. and Timothy M. Moniz of Portsmouth, RI and Francis D. Silveira, Jr. and his wife Danielle Watts Silveira of Clarksville, TN and his great granddaughter Haleigh Silveira of Clarksville, TN.He was the brother of the late Antone Silveira, Anna Raposa and Helen SilveiraCalling hours will be held on Monday, October 4, 2010, from 6-8 in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.His funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at 8:00AM, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00AM, in Jesus Savior Church, Broadway and Vernon Avenue, Newport.
