Portsmouth, - Joseph E. Faria, 86, of 162 East Main Road Portsmouth, died Thursday, January 2, 2003 at Grand Islander Health Care Center Middletown, RI.He was the husband of Kathleen Weed Faria. Born in Middletown, RI on October 12, 1916, he was the son of the late Antone and Frances Moitoza Faria. He had lived on Aquidneck Island for all of his life, growing up on a farm in Middletown.Mr. Faria worked at the Round House Dairy for over 30 years. Later he worked for 10 years at Aquidneck School and Berkley Peckham School for the Middletown School Department as a custodian. He belonged to the Middletown Knights of Columbus and attended St. Barnabas Church in Portsmouth. He enjoyed golfing, and was a member of the Green Valley Country Club. He was an avid gardner and woodworker. Besides his wife of 57 years he is survived by his daughter Eleanor F. Dwyer of Portsmouth, RI, his brother Frank J. Faria of Portsmouth, RI, three sisters Mary Bothelo of Middletown, RI, Carrie Rose of Dighton, MA, and Rose Peters of Bridgewater, MA, and two grandsons.He was the brother of the late Manuel Faria, Anthony E. Faria, Frances G. Medeiros, Jenny Luiz and Anna Oliver.His funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2003, at 9:00AM, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00AM, in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
