Joseph Ferris

Portsmouth, RI - Joseph Ferris Jr., 90, of 2856 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI, died Friday, August 11, 2006, at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the husband of the late Olinda Almeida. Born in Newport, RI, on July 7, 1916, he was the son of the late Joseph and Antonia Medeiros Ferris.Mr. Ferris had worked for Bonanza Bus Lines in Providence as a maintenance man for 10 years, retiring in 1976. He had also worked for Pearson Yachts in Portsmouth as a yacht builder. He was a Communicant of St. Anthonys Church. Mr. Ferris was an avid woodworker. He is survived by two daughters Ines de Lourdes Almeida Marques Soares de Albergaria and her husband Joao of the Azores and Marta Filomena Almeida Marques de Sousa Teixeira and her husband Carlos of Glenville, NY, three sisters Elizabeth Furtado of Riverside, RI, Laura Amaral of East Providence, RI, and Elvira Ferris of Portsmouth, RI, six grandchildren Paula Albergaria, Pedro Albergaria and his wife Paula, Andre Albergaria all of S. Miguel, Azores, Natasha Teixeira, Miguel Teixeira, and Nicole Teixeira all of Glenville, NY, and two great grandchildren Ricardo Lima and Maria Pia Albergaria and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Manuel Ferris, Julia Barbosa, Mary DaPonte, Amy Ferris, and Margaret Rego. His funeral will be held on Monday, August 21, 2006, at 9:00 a.m. from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, August 20, 2006, from 4-7 p.m. in the Connors Funeral Home.
