Portsmouth, RI - Joseph Francis Roderiques, 84, of 518 Turnpike Avenue, Portsmouth, RI, died Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Mary Louise Sinnett Roderiques. Born in Middletown, RI on August 2, 1924, he was the son of the late August and Francelina Vieira-deMello Roderiques.Mr. Roderiques served in the United States Army during World War II on Omaha Beach in Normandy. He worked as a sheet metal worker for 40 years for Planair of Providence, retiring in 2008 and also for Newport Roofing, Apollo Sheet Metal and as a self employed sub contractor for local construction companies. Mr. Roderiques was a communicant of St. Anthonys Church, was an avid fisherman and enjoyed bowling. He is survived by his children, Philip L. Roderiques of Newport, RI, Joseph F. Roderiques, Jr., Stephen J. Roderiques, Jess A. Roderiques and Mark M. Roderiques all of Portsmouth, RI, Jeffrey A. Roderiques of Rapid City, SD, Rosemary F. Piermont and Debra A. Bockey of Portsmouth, RI and Mary Louise Maute of Hollywood, FL, his sisters Elsie M. Maaestad of Arizona, Eva Raposa of North Kingstown, RI, Francelina Mello of Middletown, RI and Margaret Shepley of Massachusetts, seventeen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.He was the brother of the late Manuel Roderiques, August Roderiques, George Roderiques and Mary Geernhardt. His funeral will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2009, at 9:00 am from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery in Portsmouth.Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 23, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 in the funeral home.
