Middletown, RI - Joseph G. Medeiros, 86, of 574 Green End Avenue, Middletown, RI, died Friday, May 16, 2008 at Forest Farm Health Care Center, Middletown, RI. Born in Middletown, RI on June 16, 1921, he was the son of the late Antonio G. and Mary Escobar Medeiros.Mr. Medeiros served in the Navy in the Quartermaster Corps during World War II. He had a 25 year career at the Middletown Police Department, and retired in 1978 as Deputy Chief. Mr. Medeiros was very active in the F.O.P. holding several positions over the years. In his free time he enjoyed salt water fishing, reading, and cruising, including trips to England and Portugal. Joseph was also an active member of the local ballroom dancing club. He is survived by his brothers Arthur A. Medeiros and Martin F. Medeiros and his sister Mary M. Nunes all of Middletown, RI, and his nieces and nephews, Anthony F. Medeiros, Mary Lou Hook, Susan A. Nunes, Diane Kerins, Theresa Kalil, Mary Ellen Helger, Katharine Medeiros, Grace Medeiros, Mary Medeiros Brogan, and Martin Medeiros, II. Joseph was the brother of the late Anthony E. Medeiros, and uncle of the late Frank L. Nunes, 3rd.His funeral will be private.
