Joseph Henry O'Connor

Middletown, RI - Joseph Henry OConnor, 80, of 50 Bay View Park, Middletown, RI, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at Newport Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Ruth Marjorie Kirchner OConnor to whom he was married for 54 years. Born in Providence, RI, on July 15, 1925, he was the son of the late Bernard and Elizabeth Fanning OConnor. Mr. O?Connor graduated from St. Patrick?s School in Providence. He had a long and varied career, beginning as a teenager in several mills in the Providence area. He then moved to Middletown to work in the family business Bay View Park. He later worked for Rayburg Landscaping, St. Michael?s School and most recently at Shaw?s Supermarket in Middletown. He is survived by a son Jack O?Connor and his wife Chyleene of Middletown, RI, and three daughters, Beth OConnor of Newport, RI, Mary Ellen Watkins and her husband Edward of Warren, RI, and Pat Pritchard and her husband Tim of Arlington, TN. He was the beloved ?Grumpy? of Meghan, Kelsey and Cate O?Connor, Dan and Josh Jones, and Jake, David and Christy Pritchard and Carrie White, as well as eight great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours Friday, April 28, 2006, from 4-7p.m. in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.His funeral and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Newport County YMCA, 792 Valley Road, Middletown, RI 02842.
