Middletown, RI - Joseph J. Moffitt, 74, of 1 Johnson Terrace Middletown, died Saturday, October 16, 2004 at home He was the husband of Yvonne M. Vieira Moffitt for 25 years. Born in Portsmouth, RI on December 23, 1929, he was the son of the late Edward and Mary Martin Moffitt.Mr. Moffitt had worked as a bartender for over 30 years. He had retired from the Canfield House after 17 years and previously worked at Christy?s also in Newport. As a youth he played baseball at Cardines Field. He loved reading and enjoyed classical music. He was also an avid Trival Pursuit player. Mr. Moffitt had also enjoyed playing tennis. Besides his wife he is survived by a son Joseph Alex Moffitt of Middletown, RI, a step son Brian Raposo of Tiverton, RI, five step daughters Nancy Raposo of Newport, RI, Cheryl Cote of Middletown, RI, Pamela LaPlante of Coventry, RI, Kathleen Carreiro of Poland, OH, and Gail Wordell of Little Compton, RI, one grandson Nathan H. Moffitt, and eight step grandchildren, two sisters Agnes Amtower of Tiverton, RI, and Eileen Friedman of Tiverton, RI. He was also the brother of the late Edward Moffett, William Moffett, Mary McPherson, and Josephine Heup. His funeral will be held Wednesday, October 20 2004, at 11:00 AM in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Middletown Rescue Wagon Fund, 239 Wyatt Road, Middletown, RI 02842.
