Joseph L. Silva, 78, of Annette Drive, Portsmouth, RI, passed away at home on Sunday, November 6, 2011, with his loving family at his side.He was the longtime companion of Maureen A. Edenbach for the last 20 years.Born in Fall River, MA, on October 20, 1933, he was the son of the late Jose B. and Maria Camilo Silva. Joe worked for the Quikrete Companies for over 25 years in various capacities, retiring as East Coast Regional Sales Manager last year.An avid golfer, Joe was a member of the Fall River Country Club. He was also a member of the Bristol Elks Club. Joe adored animals, especially his dogs BJ, Kobe and Bailey. His kind, compassionate and generous spirit will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.In addition to his longtime companion Maureen, he is survived by his two daughters, Robin Arruda and her companion Michael Carrier of Wyoming, RI and Karen Oliver and her husband, Robert, of Swansea, MA; three sisters, Dolores Moniz and her husband John, of Somerset, MA, Delia Ferreira and her husband Joseph, also of Somerset, MA, and Carmelina Toots Ouellette and her husband Louis, of Swansea, MA; six grandchildren, Kristie Oliver of Dartmouth, MA, Courtney Oliver of Levittown, NY, Ryan Oliver and Riley Oliver, both of Swansea, MA, Justin Arruda of Cranston, RI and Jarrod Arruda of Wyoming, RI; one great-grandchild, Cassidy Pawlak of Middleboro, MA; his companions two sons, Robert S. Edenbach, Jr., of Tokyo, Japan and Christopher M. Edenbach of Newport, RI, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.He was the brother of the late Atilia Candeias, Lawrence Silva, Gloria Bianchi and Cremelda Silva.His funeral will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2011, at 9:30am, at the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, November 12, 2011, at 10:30am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI. His burial will follow at the St. Columba Cemetery, Browns Lane, Middletown, RI.Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 11, 2011, from 4:00-7:00pm in Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Potter League for Animals, PO Box 412, Newport, RI, 02840, or to the American Cancer Society, 931 Jefferson Blvd, Suite 3004, Warwick, RI 02886.
